TCU Notches Win over Wisconsin
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 8 TCU men’s tennis team bounced back from losing the doubles point to secure five wins in singles to defeat No. 36 Wisconsin, 5-2, on Friday night inside the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisc.
The Horned Frogs (7-2) earned their first road victory of the season and handed the Badgers (6-1) their first loss in dual match play. The win also marked the third time this season that TCU has come back to win the match after faltering in doubles play.
No. 49 Guillermo Nuñez earned win No. 13 this season and got a quick point for TCU with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court three. No. 24 Alex Rybakov and Jerry Lopez then finished simultaneously with wins on court one and court five, respectively, to give the Frogs their first lead of the match at 3-1.
Freshman Eduardo Nava proved to be the clincher, as the No. 99 ranked player picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position to seal the overall match victory for TCU.
No. 2 Cameron Norrie won his fourth consecutive match of the season to pick up the final point of the match for TCU by defeating Alexander Kokorev, 6-1, 7-5 on court two.
Quotes of the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
Opening Statement
“Well, we are getting very good at bouncing back after doubles and that is great. We need to commit more time and more mental energy into our doubles play and practice. One set, no add and no warm-up means we must execute. The best way to execute is to practice. Our players came out strong right away and took the crowd out. All our guys played well and we will take a road win against a Big 10 school anyway. Now we get to sleep and drive tomorrow to Champaign, Ill. for another tough match Sunday against Illinois.â€
