McGhee Downs School Record on Day One
AMES, Iowa — The TCU men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship with a new school record and a new meet record.
“All in all, I feel like we did well,” said director of track and field Darryl Anderson. “We had some kids step up today, and that’s something you like to see as a coach.”
Senior Brianna McGhee broke her own school record of 8.26 as she ran an 8.14 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims. McGhee’s time currently ranks No. 8 in the nation. The Omaha, Neb. native will look to stay on top of the leaderboard as she heads to the finals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Bowerman Watch List selection Ronnie Baker recorded his fastest 60-meter dash time of the season on Friday. Baker clocked in at 6.57, which ties Oklahoma State’s John Teeters for the fastest time at a Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship meet. Baker will face the nation’s leader Teeters again in the 60 meter finals at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
To open the meet, junior Makaila Flannigan placed eighth in the women’s pentathlon with a personal-best 3,660 points. Flannigan also went on to qualify for the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.60.
