Track and Field Set For Big 12 Championship
AMES, Iowa — The TCU men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning Friday, Feb. 26 at the Lied Recreation-Athletic Facility in Ames, Iowa.

Big 12 Competition
The TCU men’s team enters the conference championships ranked No. 22 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings. The men will be competing against No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Texas Tech and No. 16 Oklahoma State.
The women’s side will feature No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Kansas State, No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 24 Baylor.
Among The Best
The Horned Frogs have recorded five of the nation’s top times this season.
In the season opener, senior Brianna McGhee broke an 11-year-old school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26. Her time ranks 20th in the NCAA.
Senior Ronnie Baker’s 60-meter time of 6.58 ranks fourth in the NCAA and 15th in the world indoor lists for 2016. Baker also holds the nation’s No. 8 time in the 200 meters (20.67a).
Senior Sam Watts logged a 200-meter dash time of 20.60 at the Tyson Invitational, ranking sixth in the nation. Watts’ performance marked a career-indoor best and the second fastest in school history, trailing only former World Champion Kim Collins (20.52, 2000). Watts’ season-best time currently ranks seventh internationally.
Sophomore Scotty Newton ranks No. 26 in the nation in the triple jump after recording a mark of 15.81m (51-10.5) at the Tyson Invitational.
Eyes On The Champion
Baker began the 2016 season with national recognition from the USTFCCCA. For the months of January and February, Baker was named to the Bowerman Watch List.
The Bowerman is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athlete in NCAA track & field. It is the highest individual honor in the sport.
The defending NCAA champion and nine-time All-American has not failed to produce, recording seven first-place finishes this season.
Last Year
At the 2015 Big 12 Indoor Championships, Baker tied an 18-year-old facility record after running a 6.59 in the 60-meter dash.
Conference Champions
Since beginning Big 12 competition in 2013, TCU has produced an indoor conference champion in each season.
