Soccer Announces Spring Slate

FORT WORTH — Soccer spring practice is well underway as the team begins preparation for the 2016 season. TCU will participate in five matches, including one at Toyota Park in Dallas against Mississippi State.

“We are excited about the spring and want to be able showcase our group against some of these different teams,” said head coach Eric Bell. “Hopefully we do well, but obviously the spring is more about development and making sure we put the pieces together going into the fall. It’s about figuring out what we have, what we don’t have and what we need to work on going into the fall.”

The slate of matches starts Saturday, Feb. 27 when the Horned Frogs travel to Denton to take on Texas Women’s University at 2 p.m. After a month of practice, the team will jump back into match play with four games in April.

“We don’t worry much about the other team in the spring, it’s more about us. Obviously you play to win games and I’m sure our kids are chomping at the bit to win games. You put a lot of work into. The women want to show well and put themselves in position to play more in the fall.”

TCU will host Tulsa at Garvey-Rosenthal on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. The marquee match of the spring comes a week later on April 9 against Mississippi State at Toyota Park at 2 p.m.

On April 16, the team will head to Tyler, Texas to take on Tyler Community College at 2 p.m. The spring slate concludes April 23 at home against Texas Tech at 2 p.m.

“We won’t really be showing our hand in playing Texas Tech in the spring. Our team will be different in the fall and so will theirs. We are familiar with each other and by the time we play each other in the fall, there won’t be any secrets. The way we are looking at it is Texas Tech is a worthy opponent. It’s a good way to gauge ourselves going into the fall and it’s good to play them on our field.”

Fans are encouraged to come out and watch the matches free of charge.
