Norman Transcript: Sooners use idle week to work on themselves

The work Oklahoma did last week did not center on its next opponent or anyone coming down the pike. The losses to Houston and Ohio State featured many self-inflicted wounds. Solving those was the bye week’s focus.

Offensively, turnovers have been a huge issue. Two Baker Mayfield interceptions led directly to two Ohio State touchdowns. Against Houston, the Cougars scored 10 points off OU turnovers.

“Talent isn’t the issue,” offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley pointed out last week. “The issue is, when we played well, we’ve moved it against anybody. We moved it well against two good defenses.

“We did some things the other night against (Ohio State) that was as good as we’ve done since I’ve been here. The negative is – especially when you are playing good teams like that – is when you make as many simple mistakes as we’re making, then you get exposed.”
