The Katy Rancher: Featherston continuing development at Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate

Taylor graduate Taylor Featherston made the jump straight from Double-A to the American League at age 25 last season. Due to being selected in the Rule 5 Draft from the Colorado Rockies’ minor league system, Featherston had to spend the entire year on a Major League Baseball roster.

After being drafted by the Cubs and purchased by the Los Angeles Angels, the former Mustang stayed with the Angels for all of his MLB rookie season, seeing action in 101 games. He batted .162 with two home runs and 23 runs scored in 154 at-bats, but got experience not every fifth-year pro receives.

Featherston is one level from returning to the major leagues, playing for Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He was traded from the Angels to the Phillies on Feb. 10.
