SA Express-News: NFL picks put Baylor and TCU in select company

Baylor coach Art Briles was attending the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, in late January when a Super Bowl champion approached him.
“Mike Tomlin walks up to me and says he has a 15-year-old son who loves Baylor and thinks we have the best uniforms in the nation,†Briles said of the Pittsburgh Steelers coach who won a Super Bowl seven years ago. “I said, ‘You’ve got a smart one.’ This is a guy who lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he’s telling me that.“
Then he nudged me and said, ‘Hey, tell me about that No. 80.’â€
No. 80 for Baylor last season was tight end LaQuan McGowan, one of a handful of Bears drawing plenty of attention in advance of next week’s NFL draft. Compared with their formerly imposing brethren Texas and Texas A&M, Baylor and Big 12 rival TCU have enjoyed much more success on the field in the past few seasons, and now that success is translating to a draft payoff for star collegians. …
