TCU downed Oklahoma for the second straight season on Friday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – In its first match on the road in over a month, the No. 33 TCU women’s tennis team recorded its seventh sweep of the season with a 4-0 victory over Oklahoma on Friday night at the Headington Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
The Horned Frogs (12-4, 4-2) picked up its second sweep in Big 12 action with the win over the Sooners (7-11, 2-4 Big 12) and the win also marked the second straight season TCU has defeated Oklahoma.
In doubles action, the No. 27 pair of Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner scored win No. 20 this season and moved up to 4-1 in conference action with a 6-2 win at the top spot. Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Mia King came back from three match points to secure the doubles point with a 7-5 victory on court three for the duo’s 13th win this season.
Garrido-Rivas continued her winning ways by quickly putting point No. 2 on the board for the Frogs with her ninth straight win of the season at the No. 4 position. Arantekin followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court three, before Aleksandra Zenovka clinched the overall match victory with a 7-5, 7-5 win at the No. 5 position.

“After last weekend, this feels very good for our team. I’m so proud of the girls for regrouping and putting out a great effort tonight. Oklahoma is good and has had a lot of unfortunate matches not go their way this year. Their record and ranking is not a true indication of their level. As we have learned all year, we have to come ready to play no matter who it is and no matter what their ranking.
“The doubles point was exciting and I thought we were out of it but Mia (King) and Olaya (Garrido-Rivas) never gave up and were unbelievably clutch fighting off three match points. Seda (Arantekin) and Caroline (Wegner) continue to look extremely sharp in doubles and I’m really happy for them. In singles, Olaya and Seda were dominant and Caroline, Marie (Norris), and Alexis (Pereira) were all controlling their matches when Aleksandra (Zenovka) clinched it for us. Sasha trailed 5-3 in both sets and was also down set points but she found a way to close her match.
“Sunday is huge match and something we have been looking forward to all season. I really feel like we play our best when it’s a spotlight prime time match and so I’m excited to get the girls recovered tomorrow and see how we can handle the stage Sunday.”
