GoFrogs: Late Runs Sink TCU in Loss At Kansas
FORT WORTH – Two runs in the eighth inning helped Kansas rally for a 4-3 victory over No. 5 TCU Friday night in the series opener.
The Rundown
TCU and Kansas traded solo home runs in the first. Evan Skoug’s fourth long ball of the season with two outs put the Frogs in front, but Joe Moroney answered as he led off Kansas’ half of the first with his first home run of the season.
Three walks to open the fourth inning had the bases full of Frogs. Connor Wanhanen was plunked on the shoulder to push across the go-ahead run. The Frogs didn’t add to their lead as Kansas starter Ben Krauth got two strikeouts and a pop up to keep it a 2-1 game.
TCU carried the lead into the sixth only to see it disappear as the Jayhawks took advantage of a one-out double. Owen Taylor came through with a two-out single to tie the game at two.
The Frogs responded with a rebound run in the seventh. Austen Wade led off the frame with a base hit and moved to second on a Cam Warner single. With one out, Luken Baker singled sharply to left field to put the Frogs back on top, 3-2.
Kansas battled back once again in the eighth, taking its first lead of the game. A walk and a base hit followed by an error had the game tied at three with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Taylor delivered a sacrifice fly to put the Jayhawks on top, 4-3.
TCU had a chance to tie the game in the ninth as it had runners on the corners with one out, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the game.
Baker allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. He walked two and fanned six in the no-decision. Jared Janczak (4-2) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings of work.
