TCU Rallies For Big Win At Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – TCU found itself facing a 5-2 deficit after four innings of play, but runs in each of the final six frames helped the Horned Frogs to a 17-6 victory on Saturday. The Frogs have now won four straight games.
The Rundown
Wichita State used a trio of sacrifice flies in the first two innings to open up a 3-0 lead.
TCU closed within one with a two runs in the fourth. Back-to-back one-out doubles from Luken Baker and Elliott Barzilli had the Frogs in business. A wild pitch got the Frogs on the board and a Josh Watson base hit made it a 3-2 game.
The Shockers got the runs back in the bottom of the inning, restoring the three-run cushion, 5-2.
From there, it was all Horned Frogs. A Cam Warner double followed by an Evan Skoug base hit made it a 5-4 game after five.
TCU completed the comeback and took the lead with another two runs in the sixth. Mason Hesse tied the game with a bases loaded sacrifice fly. A wild pitch allowed Watson to score to put the Frogs on top 6-5.
Five runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings blew the game open. Skoug hit an RBI double followed by an RBI triple from Barzilli pushed the lead to 8-5. Watson launched his sixth home run of the season to double up the Shockers, 10-5. A two-out error gifted the Frogs their 11th run.
Highlighting the five-run eighth was Dane Steinhagen’s fourth home run of the season, a three-run line shot over the right field fence. TCU and Wichita State traded runs in the ninth to account for the final score.
Brian Trieglaff (3-0) earned the win in relief of Brian Howard. Trieglaff pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking three and striking out four. Drew Gooch pitched the final two innings for the Frogs.
