The Buffalo News: Bills bring in ex-Jet WR Jeremy Kerley for a visit

The market is thinning. There aren’t many veteran wide receivers available for the Buffalo Bills, a team that said it wants a new complementary weapon opposite Sammy Watkins.

On Tuesday, Rex Ryan brought in an ex-Jet for a visit, Jeremy Kerley, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

The shorter Kerley would be more of No. 3 slot receiver and had a down 2015 season with 16 receptions for 152 yards. But there would be a sense of familiarity in that the 5-foot-9, 188-pound receiver played his first four pro seasons under Ryan. The Jets released Kerley last week to save $1.3 million under the salary cap — he was used sparingly in offensive coordinator’s Chan Gailey’s offense.

The 2011 fifth-round pick out of TCU caught 56 passes for 827 yards with two touchdowns in 2012 but his numbers declined since. In October 2014, Ryan and the Jets felt good enough about Kerley’s future to give him a four-year, $16 million contract extension. Two years later, he’s a free agent. …
