GoFrogs: Graebe Takes Medalist Honors at Clover Cup
MESA, Ariz. — TCU freshman Brooke Graebe carded a final-round 71 to finish with a 6-under-par 210 and take medalist honors after Sunday’s final round of the Notre Dame Clover Cup.
TCU placed second out of 17 schools in the team standings with a 2-over 866, eight strokes behind SMU. It was the Horned Frogs’ third runner-up finish and sixth top-10 result in seven tournaments this season.
Graebe birdied her final two holes and four of the last six. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native was 2 under on the back nine and totaled five birdies on the day.
Graebe is TCU’s first medalist since April McCoy won the 2012 Windy City Collegiate Classic. Graebe is the first TCU freshman to win a tournament since Valentine Derrey, in her first collegiate event, at the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
“I am really proud of this team,” TCU head women’s golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. “Their passion and grit are so fun to coach.
“We are all so happy for Brooke! Each week, she continues to get better and better. It was only a matter of time before she won! She is a true champion on and off the golf course.”
Fellow TCU freshman Annika Clark had a career best eighth-place finish after Sunday’s 72. She recorded four final-round birdies and finished with a career low 1-under 215. It was her second top-10 result of the season.
Alex Sborov had career-best results of a 19th-place finish and 54-hole score of 6-over 222 for the Horned Frogs. She had three birdies Sunday, including her final hole, in finishing with a 76.
TCU junior Kelly McGovern had a final-round 71 to place in a tie for 20th, her third top-20 result of the season. She had an eagle on the par 5, 15th hole. She also had a birdie and recorded par on 14 holes.
Emmy Martin had a final-round 76 for the Horned Frogs and tied for 26th. She posted two birdies Sunday.
TCU returns to action March 21 at the San Diego State March Mayhem.
