Charleston Gazette-Mail: Dana Holgorsen hopeful for healthy stable of backs

MORGANTOWN — Running backs Justin Crawford and Kennedy McKoy both left last week’s win at Texas Tech with injuries, and No. 12 West Virginia had yet to practice before coach Dana Holgorsen’s weekly news conference Tuesday. Holgorsen was hopeful both would work out in the evening and be available for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. home game against TCU (ABC).

“They’re going to be fine,” he said. “I think they probably would have gone back in if we needed them to last week. They’re going to be sore. Get used to it. It’s going to be a long season. Guys are going to get nicked up. You have to rehab it and play through some soreness. You’ve got to keep practicing.”

McKoy, a freshman from Lexington, North Carolina, finished with 99 yards on four carries but left the game with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter. Crawford, the 2015 junior college offensive player of the year, had 42 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and a 5-yard touchdown reception before leaving with an ankle injury in the second quarter.
