NJ Advance: Stubborn Doug Pederson says he’ll stick with disastrous Halapoulivaati Vatai on Eagles’ line

LANDOVER, MD — Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz sat at his locker with a sizable red welt just below the back of his shoulder-blade, a fresh wound potentially resulting from being sacked five times against the Washington Redskins in Sunday’s 27-20 loss at FedEx Field.

On the other side of the locker room, 50 feet away, rookie fifth-round draft pick Halapoulivaati Vaitai — who surrendered 2.5 sacks of Wentz on his own, including on the game’s first snap — stood facing a pack of reporters wearing a black shirt that said, “The worst days are the days you must show up. Those are the days that will create your inner-beast.’

This was a resounding dud of a debut for Vaitai, but chances are he will have many days like this ahead.
