GoFrogs: Soccer Falters At Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State took a 2-0 lead into the half and withstood a strong second half push by TCU to post a 3-0 victory on Sunday. Michelle Prokof led all players with six shots.
The Rundown
Oklahoma State struck for a pair of goals over a seven-minute span to take a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play. Both teams had three shots on goal, but the Frogs were unable to sneak one past the Cowgirl keeper.
The Cowgirls struck first in the 22nd minute. TCU was whistled for a foul setting up a free kick. Jaci Jones took the Julia Lenhardt feed and blasted it to the far post from 20 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Haley Woodard watch her shot from distance clang off the crossbar and across the goal line for a 2-0 lead.
Mixed in was a golden opportunity for TCU to tie the match at one. Three minutes after the first OSU goal, Prokof found herself alone inside the six-yard box. Her shot struck the near post and bounced out of danger.
TCU controlled much of the play in the second half, outshooting Oklahoma State 9-2, but it couldn’t find a goal. The Frogs earned six corners, but Cowgirl goalkeeper Michela Ongaro used her size and leaping ability to squelch a number of TCU looks.
Oklahoma State was awarded a penalty kick with under two minutes remaining in the match after a collision inside the 18-yard box. Courtney Dike converted the kick to account for the final score.
