Topeka Capital-Journal: David Beaty in no mood for moral victories following gut-wrenching KU football loss
LAWRENCE — David Beaty didn’t wait long after Matthew Wyman’s potential game-winning field goal sailed wide right to call attention to his kicker.
Speaking to a demoralized locker room moments after a one-point defeat, which effectively ended when Wyman missed a 54-yard boot with six seconds left, the Kansas football coach gave Wyman a very public — and personal — endorsement.
“I love you like my own children,” Beaty recalled telling Wyman, “and we will ride or die with you, my friend.”
The Jayhawks, 28-point underdogs, put a scare into TCU but surrendered a go-ahead field goal with 2:24 left, came up short on their own response and fell 24-23 Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
