GoFrogs: Volleyball Falls Short at KSU

Final Stats

MANHATTAN, Kan. – In the second straight road match of the week, the TCU volleyball team came up just short as they dropped a 3-1 (33-31, 21-25, 25-18, 25-12) decision to Kansas State on Saturday afternoon inside Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan.

After the Horned Frogs (10-6, 3-3 Big 12) and the Wildcats (14-4, 3-2) split the opening two sets, K-State dominated the third set with a .607 hitting clip and used the momentum to take an early lead in the fourth set as TCU could not recover and Kansas State won the match in four sets.

Ashley Smith and Regan McGuire led the offensive effort for TCU with 11 kills each, while Natalie Gower finished with 10 kills. Jillian Bergeson and Kayla Scheevel anchored the back row with 16 kills each, while McGuire finished with a team-best six total blocks to lead the team at the net.

Quotes of the Match
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
“I think we came out in the first, second and about halfway through the third set competing really hard. We actually ran out of subs in the first set because it went deep to 33-31. We were playing in all different kinds of positions, but the team stayed locked in and focused and came back and won the second set by serving really tough. We competed pretty hard the first part of that third set and then kind of let up a little bit. I can tell by how tough we are serving how engaged and how aggressive we are being and we just stopped being aggressive at 17-all in the third.

“We have some things that we have to figure out and it is still early in the Big 12 season. We are not quite halfway through and I do think this was one of our better matches to date quite honestly. Kansas State is a great team and they played great volleyball. This is a tough environment to play in and I think our team can leave here knowing we played really solid volleyball for the majority of that match. We have to be good all the way through.”
