The News-Journal: Vaitai could be Lane Johnson’s replacement on O-line
Martin Frank , The News Journal
PHILADELPHIA – Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he expects Lane Johnson to play Sunday after the right tackle had his appeal heard Tuesday in New York.
Johnson is facing a 10-game suspension for using a performing enhancing substance. He was back at practice Wednesday with the first unit, an indication that a ruling won’t be made until next week at the earliest.
The difference this week is that Pederson said there’s a chance that Halapoulivaati Vaitai would replace Johnson at right tackle. Up until this week, Pederson said the plan was for left guard Allen Barbre to go to right tackle and Stefen Wisniewski would then come off the bench and play left guard.
“We want to exhaust all the possibilities, and Allen Barbre has been playing great at left guard,” Pederson said. “If you don’t have to disrupt two positions, and just do one, I think there’s a conversation there that we’ve got to have. But yeah, [Vaitai] is definitely in the mix.”
