FORT WORTH — On a windy day at Colonial Country Club, the TCU men’s golf team closed out the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational with a final round 297 to finish in a tie for 13th place in the very strong field.

Chelso Barrett was the Horned Frogs’ top finisher as he finished in a tie for 14th place at 3-over for the tournament. Stefano Mazzoli had the Frogs’ top round of the day on Tuesday with a 2-over 72.

Vanderbilt won the team championship by one stroke over Florida. Max McNealy of Stanford, the world’s No. 1 amateur, shot a final-round 68 to finish the tournament at 8-under-par and win the individual title by two strokes.

Round of the Day
Mazzoli teed off from No. 10 and play a 1-under back nine. He then hit a rough patch with three consecutive bogeys on holes No. 4, 5 and 6, before closing with three straight pars.

The sophomore’s 2-over 72 was impressive in windy conditions in which only six golfers posted round under par on Tuesday.

Other Notables
– Barrett finished in the top 20 for the fourth straight tournament, dating back to last season. He finished 13th at last season’s NCAA Championships, then eighth and 12th in TCU’s first two tournament this season, respectively.

– Freshman Jeong Weon Ko had the Frogs second best round of the day as he carded a 3-over 73. Ko’s 73 was one stroke off his season low and a nice bounce-back round after shooting an 83 on Monday.

– TCU was hosting the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational for the second time. The Frogs hosted the inaugural event in 2014 at Colonial Country Club, while the second annual event was played at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, Ore., in 2015.

– The 2016 Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational field featured seven of the nation’s top 10 teams and three of the world’s top five amateurs.
