Daily Oklahoman: Beat TCU, or Sooner season goes from disappointing to historic

NORMAN — Modern college football players rarely are historians. To them, historical figures are Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III. Tim Tebow and Reggie Bush are old-timers.
But sometimes the young’ns will surprise you. Like Sooner fullback Dimitri Flowers, who this week contemplated the import of OU-TCU on Saturday in Fort Worth.
“If we lose, it’s 1-3 and one of the worst starts in the history of Oklahoma football,” Flowers said. “But if we win, it’s a new season.”
Correct on all counts. And enlightening. OU’s losses to Houston and Ohio State have focused on how disappointing has been this Sooner September. But lose to TCU, and 2016 shifts quickly from disappointing to disastrous. Historically disastrous.
