GoFrogs: Volleyball Drops Road Match to WVU
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Despite going up 2-1 in the match, the TCU volleyball team could not hold on as the team dropped its first Big 12 match of the season as they fell 3-2 (25-18, 24-26, 21-25, 25-18, 15-10) to West Virginia on Wednesday night inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W. Va.
After a slow start to the match, the Horned Frogs (9-4, 2-1 Big 12) rebounded by taking the second and third sets over the Mountaineers (10-6, 2-1 Big 12). WVU responded by taking a big lead to start the fourth set & then used the momentum to capitalize in the fifth set to steal the victory.
Anna Walsh led the team in kills for the first time this season with 14 against WVU, while Jillian Bergeson chipped in nine kills. Three players finished with double-digit digs with Kayal Scheevel leading the way with 18, while Sarita Mikals finished with 16 and Bergeson had 13. Natalie Gower led the blocking effort with nine, while Walsh finished with a career-high eight blocks.

12 – With 14 total blocks in the match, TCU out-blocked its opponent for the 12th time this season out of the 13 matches played. The last time a team registered more blocks than the Frogs was on Sept. 3 at North Carolina.

“This was a really hard fought battle by both teams. West Virginia played great and that is the best defensive effort we have seen all year from a team. They dug a lot of balls and we had a really hard time getting any production from the outside, with the exception of Anna Walsh on the right side pin. I thought our middles did great and the block was pretty good, but West Virginia was tooling like crazy. They are a good team that is playing hard and Reed (Sunahara) is doing a really good job with them.”
