Austin American-Statesman: With road game against tough TCU on tap, it could get worse for OU

Bob Stoops certainly is in an odd position. And what’s happening with his Oklahoma Sooners also is a conundrum for the rest of the Big 12.

OU, the defending Big 12 champion and a decided favorite to repeat back in August, was 1-2 in September. The only other time that’s happened in Stoops’ 18 seasons in Norman was in 2005. And that season was explained away by quarterback issues, with the Sooners losing to TCU and UCLA in non-conference September action.

This week, the Sooners open Big 12 play on the road against the Horned Frogs, and oddsmakers have established the game as a “pick ‘em” contest. The past three games between the two have been decided by a collective seven points. OU, conceiveably, could have three losses coming into its Oct. 8 Red River Rivalry date in Dallas against Texas.
