Today’s U: Oklahoma searches for leadership heading into crucial game at TCU
Leadership is difficult to quantify. It’s most easily recognizable or noticeable when it’s absent.
Oklahoma’s bye week following its 45-24 home-field crushing by Ohio State has left the Sooners at 1-2 for only the second time during the Bob Stoops Era. The first time happened in 2005 when OU lost to TCU and UCLA and finished with an 8-4 record.
While there were off-season questions about replacing three offensive line starters, a number of top defensive players and top receiver Sterling Shepard, those absences involved more than their on-field production. The departed were the leaders of last year’s 11-2 team that made the College Football Playoff.
“It’s fair to say the leadership isn’t close to what it was a year ago,†Stoops said after Saturday’s loss to the Buckeyes left the Big 12 title as the Sooners’ only goal for this season.
