DMN: Separation of politics and expansion? The two together aren’t always helpful for Big 12 membership

Before he became a politician, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was a sportscaster and talk show host.
As this week showed, old habits are hard to break.
Patrick spiced up the Big 12 expansion discussion with a couple of quotes to Mark Berman of Houston’s Fox 26, continuing his strong public backing of Texas schools Houston and SMU.
“[Big 12 schools] have to vote,” Patrick told Berman, the station’s sports director. “We’ll see how Oklahoma votes. I mean after the thrashing they took from the University of Houston, could they really vote no? I can’t image they’d vote no. I feel good about the University of Houston. We’ll see what happens with SMU.”
