DMN: Why Gary Patterson hoped for more tears from Horned Frogs than what he saw after Arkansas loss

When TCU coach Gary Patterson walked into the locker room to meet his team following a 41-38 double-overtime loss to Arkansas last Saturday, he didn’t see the scene he “would’ve liked to have seen.”

Patterson recalled how two years ago, after a 61-58 loss to Baylor, there wasn’t a dry eye in a locker room featuring a more veteran-laden group. The loss hurt that Horned Frogs team, and it showed.

Patterson hoped to see similar emotion, a sign of similar investment from Saturday’s loss to Arkansas. Instead, he saw only a few tears. For Patterson, it was a sign of a young team needing to grow up — a task that continues with Iowa State coming to Fort Worth on Saturday.

“There’s no secret and there’s no substitute for growing up and maturing,” Patterson said. “Maturation is hard work, putting them in difficult situations and getting ready to go.”
