GoFrogs: Turpin Repeats on Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas — The Big 12 Conference has announced TCU’s KaVontae Turpin as its Special Teams Player of the Week.

It’s the second straight week Turpin has received the honor.

Turpin totaled 169 return yards (33 punt, 136 kickoff), including a career-long 64-yard kickoff return with less than a minute to play in regulation to put TCU in position for a potential game-winning field goal.

The sophomore from Monroe, La., averaged 16.5 yards on his two punt returns and 34.0 yards on four kickoff returns. He also tied a career high with seven receptions for 126 yards while recording a career-best 295 all-purpose yards (136 kickoff returns, 33 punt returns, 126 receiving). He averaged 22.7 yards each time he touched the ball.

Turpin leads the Big 12 in both punt return average (28.8 yards) and kickoff returns (34.0 yards). He is the only player nationally to rank in the top five in both categories, placing second on punt returns and fifth in kickoff returns. He also leads the nation in all-purpose yards at 236.0 per game.
