AMES, Ia. — There are two types of history: The type fans embrace and embellish, and the type players and coaches try to avoid.
For coach Matt Campbell and the Iowa State football team, this week is about avoidance.
The Cyclones have not started a season 0-3 since 1997 — when many of the current players were either being born or in diapers — but after losses to Northern Iowa and Iowa the past two weeks, they head to Texas Christian as 23½-point underdogs.
“For myself and our staff and our players, we have to get better,†Campbell said. “Really, there is no excuse. I’d love to sit here and make a bunch of them, but there is none.
