GoFrogs: Volleyball Shuts Down UTC
OMAHA, Neb. – A dominant offensive and defensive performance on Saturday led the TCU volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 26-24) sweep of Chattanooga in the D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb., as the team concluded competition at the Bluejay Invitational.
After easily winning the first two sets, the Horned Frogs (5-2) found themselves trailing the Mocs (5-4) 19-11 in the third set. After a timeout, TCU would go on an 11-2 run capped by two straight blocks from Paty Valle Hernandez to take the 22-21 lead. The teams battled back and forth before Regan McGuire put down kill No. 11 in the match and UTC sent one final attack long to give the Frogs a 26-24 win and the sweep.
McGuire led the team for the second straight match with 11 kills and a .588 hitting clip while Ashleigh Martin recorded double-digit kills for the third time this season with 10 in the match. Kayla Scheevel got her first start as libero and picked up 22 digs in the match, while Jillian Bergeson dug up eight to become the 11th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career digs.

“I am really proud of our team and the way they bounced back today. After you play a match that you were really looking forward to like last night and it doesn’t go quite as you planned and you don’t play quite up to your expectations, sometimes it is tough to have such a quick turnaround from 6 o’clock last night to Noon today. That is a pretty quick turnaround. You never know how people are going to come back and we came back with a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm and we had great team effort. We got a lot of people in who have not played very much. We got Ashley (Smith) in to swing at the ball which was so good to see. She was blocking and hitting balls again and I loved it. When we did that in the third set, we got down a little bit and it was 19-11 and we came back and won it 26-24. Our team was really resilient and they fought hard for the win.”
