GoFrogs: Hill’s Big Night Propels TCU Soccer To Victory

BEAUMONT, Texas – Kayla Hill’s penalty kick goal in the 73rd minute propelled TCU to a 2-1 victory over Illinois Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal. With the win, TCU is off to its best start in school history as it improved to 4-0 on the season.
The Rundown TCU hit the ground running as it pushed the charge into the offensive zone. Hill’s first chance came just 45 seconds in, but her shot sailed wide. TCU kept the pressure on and capitalized just under a minute later to take the early lead.
McKenzie Oliver pushed the attack toward the Illinois goal. Her cross into the penalty box was on target for Hill, who flicked the ball to a hard-charging Emma Heckendorn for the easy tap-in and a 1-0 lead in the game’s second minute.
Courtney Hofer was called on just over 12 minutes later to keep it a 1-0 game as Illinois was pushing hard to get the equalizer. The cross into the box was on target for Patricia George, but Hofer was right there for the save on the low shot.
Illinois came out charging in the second as it tried to tie the game. Katie Lund had to be sharp early and often. Her first save came just 33 seconds into the half as she corralled the in-tight shot off the foot of Reagan Robishaw.
The Illini got the equalizer they were looking for in the 56th minute. A corner kick for Illinois looked like it would be cleared out of danger, but the clear landed right on the foot of Taylore Peterson. She made it count as she ripped in her first goal of the season to tie the game.
TCU battled and eventually earned a penalty kick as Heckendorn charged down the field after a long pass. She was taken down in the 18-yard box, setting up Hill’s successful penalty kick attempt. Lund made two more saves to preserve the win for TCU.

6 – Emma Heckendorn has either scored or assisted on six of TCU’s 11 goals scored this season. While she did not factor into the scoring of the game-winner, Heckendorn drew the foul call that led to the penalty kick.
