DMN: 5 things TCU fans need to know about SDSU: Experience, talent make Jackrabbits no pushovers

TCU opens its 2016 football season Saturday with an opponent it has never faced before.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits, from Brookings, S.D., will roll into town for a 7 p.m. game at Amon G. Carter Stadium. SDSU is ranked as high as No. 6 in one FCS poll, and is coming off of a wild-card playoff appearance in a season that saw the Jackrabbits beat the Kansas Jayhawks. Still, many Frog fans may be unfamiliar with South Dakota State, so here’s what you need to know about the Jackrabbits:

1. They have a bona fide star at wide receiver.

Jake Weineke may not be a household name in Texas, but the senior receiver is as good as any in FCS ball. He set the Missouri Valley Football Conference record in receiving yardage last year with 1,472 yards, and had 11 touchdown catches along the way. The junior was an All-American in each of his first two years, and he serves as a major weapon in this offense. Tight end Dallas Goedert and receiver Conner Landberg will join him as the primary targets.
