ANAHEIM, Calif. — With each start here late in the season, Brandon Finnegan is proving not only to the Reds, but also to himself that he can be a starter in the future.

His future role has been a question ever since he was drafted out of Texas Christian University in 2014, but he had another excellent start on Wednesday in the Reds’ 3-0 loss to the Angels.

“His development has been exceptional, really a highlight of the season,” said Reds’ manager Bryan Price, who saw his team fall to 55-77 on the season and not only get swept in Anaheim, but lose five of six on the West Coast road trip.

The Reds were unable to figure out veteran Ricky Nolasco, who threw his first shutout since 2012 and saw his ERA drop from 5.24 on the season to 4.95 and pick up his first victory with the Angels in six starts.
