FWST: TCU’s Patterson using social media to scout SDSU

TCU coach Gary Patterson is well-aware that South Dakota State, the Horned Frogs’ opening-day opponent from the FCS ranks, is one of the nation’s top teams in that classification. The Jackrabbits are No. 8 in the FCS preseason poll and return 15 starters from the team that knocked off Kansas, 41-38, in last year’s opener.

Patterson also acknowledged that he has picked up insights about the team by checking out videos posted on the school’s website, including practice footage and interviews with coaches. He called such insights “awesome” and stressed that the favor will not be returned on TCU’s social media sites as he prepares for Saturday’s season opener.

“They probably don’t think we’re paying attention. But we’ve stayed here 19 years because we pay attention to everybody,” Patterson said. “I’m watching on the … website and I’m watching them practice and listening to them talk about each one of their players. So I’m not going to do the same thing.”
