GoFrogs: TCU Stays Undefeated, Tops Lamar 6-0

Final Stats

BEAUMONT, Texas – A five-goal outburst in the second half highlighted TCU’s 6-0 win at Lamar on Sunday afternoon. Michelle Prokofand Faith Carter led the offensive attack with two goals apiece to help the Horned Frogs improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Rundown

The Horned Frogs opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a Michelle Prokof tally. A short goal kick got the ball back in the Frogs’ possession. Emma Heckendorn made a strong cross feed to the far post where Prokof was waiting to head in her second of the season.

TCU exploded in the second half, scoring five goals on 16 shots. The Frogs wasted little time extending the lead to 2-0 as Prokof and Heckendorn teamed up again. Heckendorn found a wide-open Prokof for her second of the game in the 48th minute.

Just over eight minutes later, Heckendorn found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. She took a strong feed in stride from McKenzie Oliver and beat the Cardinals’ keeper in the 54th minute.

Faith Carter struck for back-to-back goals 13 minutes apart to extend the lead to 5-0. Her first goal came in the 72nd minute. Brittany Little made a great outlet pass downfield that was then flicked on by Allison Ganter. Carter raced in on goal and fired off a shot that was stopped by the keeper. She stayed with it and blasted home the rebound for her first of the season. On her second goal, she took a feed in tight from Courtney Forte and tucked it inside the near post.

Allison Ganter capped the scoring with a booming shot from 40 yards out over the keeper’s head for her first goal of the season.

For the third straight game, Courtney Hofer and Katie Lund teamed up to get the Frogs a win. Lund had to make the game’s only save late in the second half.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell

On the game as a whole:
“It was challenging with the weather and the stoppage, but I think our kids handled it very well and with maturity. We took it all in stride, came out and handled the first eight minutes and the final 45 minutes.”

On the offensive output:
“It was nice to see. Our kids are playing with a little bit more rhythm and confidence. It’s rewarding for us as a coaching staff to see the things we’ve been working on in practice happen. A lot of different people got on the score sheet today, which makes me happy. We showed we can score a lot of different ways, not just off of set pieces.”

Wrapping up the road trip and returning home:
“These games were a test for us in finding out where we are from a mentality standpoint. We shown very well the last two weeks that we are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the league. It’s going to be nice to have the comfort of our traditions coming up for the month of September.”
