Today’s Knuckleball: Reds’ Finnegan sets career high with 12 strikeouts

Very rarely does it seem that there is good news surrounding the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff, yet here we are.

Starting pitcher Brandon Finnegan set a personal best on Friday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks as he sent 12 hitters down on strikes. That clip is also a season-high for the woeful group of Cincy starters.

There is a kicker, however. Finnegan worked through six innings, fanned the aforementioned number of batters, allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks, and sure enough, exited down 2-1.

The 23-year-old former TCU Horned Frog is in the midst of his second season with the Reds after the Royals shipped him to Cincinnati midway through the 2015 season. Finnegan did receive his World Series ring from the Royals organization after defeating the New York Mets last season.
