KXAN: Stephen Shipley continues the family route tree
MARBLE FALLS (KXAN) — The receiver position runs routes through the Shipley family. But before Jordan and Jaxon Shipley, all the credit went to uncle Stephen Shipley.
“You know, (people say) Jordan and Jaxon they got their hands from you and I said yeah, but they didn’t get their speed from me. You know my deal was run across the middle, catch it and fall down,†Shipley said.
Humble to the core on his pass catching acumen, Stephen Shipley was a great college receiver, ranking high on TCU’s all-time receivers list, but pressed on the matter–he won’t say much.
“Maybe they didn’t throw the ball as much as we did back then. The good thing was then I got to play all four years so I had plenty of time to catch a bunch of balls,†Shipley said with a chuckle.
