NMSU Quarterback Arrested, Another Leaves Program

Tough news to swallow for New Mexico State Football fans today.  NMSU officials have confirmed to NC9 that transfer quarterback Tyler Matthews has left the Aggies program.  In an email to NC9, NMSU said that Matthews did not want to be a backup quarterback again.

Also learned today, NMSU junior QB Tyler Rogers was arrested Friday by the Las Cruces Police Department for misdemeanor battery.  This was first reported by the Las Cruces Sun-News. Head Coach Doug Martin told Jason Groves of the Sun News that no suspension is coming forth right now, due to this being a misdemeanor.

As for Matthews, he has already been removed from the NMSU website.  Matthews had previously been a backup at TCU and Southern Miss.  It was thought to be a pretty even quarterback battle between Matthews and Rogers.
