GoFrogs: Volleyball’s Smith Named Preseason All-Big 12

FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second straight season, TCU volleyball senior Ashley Smith has garnered Preseason All-Big 12 honors, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Smith, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, was one of six selections who was unanimously voted onto the team. The preseason team is chosen by league coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

“Ashley has been the definition of a great student-athlete long before I arrived on campus at TCU,” Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “She has also been very coachable and because of that, she had a lot of success in our system last season. She worked hard throughout the spring and summer, along with her teammates, in order to work towards our mission for this season.”

A 6-foot-1 outside hitter, Smith has played in all but three matches during her Horned Frog career and has led the team in kills the last two seasons. An AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, Smith has totaled 892 kills and 2.82 kills per set during her career and has picked up 763 digs and 2.41 digs per set.

The League City, Texas native led the team in 2015 with 12 double-doubles and totaled 14 double-digit kill performances. Smith also led the team during conference action with 167 kills and 2.93 kills per set. During her career, Smith has earned three postseason honors as well as picking up All-Tournament honors on eight occasions.

TCU will kick-off the season with the Purple & White Scrimmage that will be held on Aug. 20 at 5 p.m., in the Rickel. The team will then open the season at home for the second straight year by hosting North Carolina State, Arkansas State and Boise State from Aug. 26-28.
