ESPN: Time off before TCU transfer helped QB Kenny Hill learn from failure

FORT WORTH, Texas – Kenny Hill needed the lull. TCU coach Gary Patterson knew that from the start. So he made Hill wait.
This was a 20-year-old fresh off a public and painful breakup with Texas A&M, one who’d gone from the “Trill” Heisman Trophy contender to benched and suspended in just one month. He had a lot he still needed to work out.
When the young quarterback visited TCU in the spring of 2015 with the hopes of resetting his life, Patterson took a different approach: Ease him in slowly. Hill took classes at nearby Tarrant County College that semester. He came over to watch Trevone Boykin and the offense in spring practices. He got to know the coaches. Most important, he laid low.
