247 Sports: Underrated nationally, TCU slowly starting to shed underdog role

Four years into its grand Big 12 experiment, TCU is among the nation’s elite in terms of on-field success.

The Horned Frogs’ 23 combined wins over the past two seasons tops the Big 12 and is behind only Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State nationally. Yet entering 2016, with a defense returning eight starters and a few key skill position players, TCU is an afterthought in even regional preseason posturing, getting picked as low as sixth in the Big 12 by ESPN.

Then again, the underdog role is pretty much how it goes in Fort Worth for the Horned Frogs.

“We don’t really care,” said TCU senior defensive end Josh Carraway at Big 12 Media Days. “We don’t want it changing.”

But should it?
