Pittsburgh Tribune: Ex-coach Dixon defends his offensive system at Pitt

Former Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said he understands why forward Michael Young, the Panthers’ leading scorer last season, believes (Dixon’s) “coaching style was not the right fit for our team.”

Young recently told the Tribune-Review that he expects to have more offensive freedom under new coach Kevin Stallings.

“Every kid I hope would say that: gain more freedom and want more shots and opportunities,” said Dixon, who left Pitt in March to accept the same job at TCU. “That’s just part of being a player. I would encourage them to say that.”

Dixon said Young flourished in his system, leading the team in scoring last season (15.7 points per game) and ranking fourth among returning scorers in the ACC.
