Waco Tribune-Herald: TCU’s Patterson mum on Briles: ‘Baylor is not my problem’

DALLAS — Art Briles may be gone from the Big 12, but he isn’t forgotten.
Just don’t expect Gary Patterson to utter his name.
At Monday’s opening-round action at Big 12 media days, the rivalry between the TCU coach and the former Baylor coach was rekindled, if only momentarily. A reporter asked Patterson about his “spirited rivalry†with Briles, and if it was strange that he was no longer leading the Bears.
Patterson responded, “Number one, Baylor is a good university. I have a lot of Baylor friends, and (new coach) Jim Grobe and I have known each other for a long time. We were on the (NCAA) Ethics Committee together, he and his wife went on trips together, and he’s a good football coach. He’s done a great job every place he’s been.
