DALLAS — Oklahoma is the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12, at least according to media covering the league. The second-place pick was TCU, which received the only other first-place votes in the poll.
“I don’t know that we’re the No. 2 team when two-a-days start,†Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson said Monday at Big 12 Media Days. “We’ll see if we can become the No. 2 team. But we’re not talking about being No. 2. If you’re not talking about being No. 1, don’t talk about it.â€
Patterson did talk about the offseason happenings at Baylor, TCU’s full revenue share in the Big 12 and several other topics during his meeting with reporters.
Q: You had a spirited coaching rivalry with Art Briles and have had some tough games against Baylor the past few years. How strange is it now that you are entering a season with Briles gone and with Baylor in flux?
A: Number one, Baylor is a good university. I have a lot of Baylor friends and Jim Grobe and I have known each other for a long time, were on the Ethics Committee together, he and his wife, went on trips together, and he’s a good football coach. He’s done a great job every place he’s ever been. One thing is Baylor is a good university, they’re a good football program and they’ve got a lot of good players coming back. I don’t see that changing much.
