GoFrogs: Mosiello and Saarloos Ink Extensions
FORT WORTH – TCU baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle announced that associate head coach Bill Mosiello and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Kirk Saarloos have inked contract extensions.
“Bill and Kirk have obviously done an amazing job in each of their respective areas of responsibility and the results have shown on the field,†raved Schlossnagle. “Most importantly, they are both great people and good leaders of young men as well as very special husbands and fathers. Along with Coach Zach Etheredge, our staff is truly special to be around each and every day. It’s an honor for me to be able to serve our players and program along side each of them.”
Mosiello’s arrival on campus in the fall of 2013 has coincided with TCU’s three straight appearances in the College World Series. The coaching trio of Schlossnagle, Mosiello and Saarloos has seen TCU win a trio of Big 12 titles (two tournament and one regular season crown), host three NCAA Regionals and two NCAA Super Regionals. The Horned Frogs own a .744 (148-51) winning percentage and have finished ranked in the top five in each of the last three seasons, culminating in a unanimous No. 3 ranking in 2016.
Under Mosiello’s guidance, TCU has turned into one of the most prolific offensive teams in the nation. The Horned Frogs have led the Big 12 in batting average each of the last two seasons. Additionally, TCU has become one of the top base-running teams, ranking seventh nationally with 308 stolen bases over the last three seasons.
Six hitters over the last three seasons have been drafted. Additionally, four have earned Freshman All-American accolades over the last two seasons. TCU has produced each of the last two Big 12 Freshmen of the Year in Connor Wanhanen (2014) and Luken Baker (2015).
Saarloos, in addition to his duties as the recruiting coordinator, has mentored one of the nation’s top pitching staffs over the last four seasons. The Horned Frogs’ 2.64 ERA since his arrival is second only to Cal State Fullerton. TCU led the nation with a 2.22 ERA in 2014 and ranked second in 2015 with a 2.45 ERA. Additionally, no program in the nation has pitched more shutouts (33) than TCU over the last three seasons.
He has seen 16 pitchers drafted over the last four years. Eight of the 16 pitchers drafted have gone in the top nine rounds. Brandon Finnegan became TCU’s third first-round draft pick in 2014 and made history appearing in both the CWS and the MLB World Classic in the same year.
The 2017 season will mark the trio’s fourth season together.
