GoFrogs: TCU Trio to Compete in USGA Events

FORT WORTH, Texas — A pair of former TCU women’s golfers will tee it up this weekend at the U.S. Women’s Open that will be contested at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif., while a third will compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur in early August.

Angela Stanford, a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour and four-time All-American while at TCU from 1997-2000, and Valentine Derrey, a native of Paris, France, and member of the Ladies European Tour, will tee off at 1:41 p.m. PT and 7:27 a.m. PT, respectively, in the opening round Thursday.

Stanford, whose best finish in 2016 was a tie for fourth at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in late June, is paired with Michelle Wie and Sandra Gal, while Derrey, who played at TCU from 2007-2010 and was the Co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2008, is paired with Kelly Tan and amateur Naomi Ko. Both Stanford and Derrey will start on No. 10.

Annika Clark, who played in all 10 tournaments for the Horned Frogs in the 2015-16 season as well as the San Diego State March Mayhem match-play event, will tee it up at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa., Aug. 1-7.

For the year, Clark had three top-20 finishes, including a pair of top-10 efforts for the Horned Frogs. She placed eighth with a 1-under par performance at the Notre Dame Clover Cup when she shot a career-low 215.
