Today’s U: TCU can solidify pass defense with Ranthony Texada’s return

After taking off his redshirt in 2014, cornerback Ranthony Texada developed a rhythm for TCU, closing out the season with his first career interception. With his all-state track speed, he had started to shrug off his three-star recruit status. He carried big expectations entering the 2015 season.

It’s understandable that TCU fans may be upset that his brother, Raleigh, decided to stick with Baylor even after the mass exodus of his fellow 2016 class. He’s basically a clone of his brother. However, getting the eldest Texada back from injury should be enough to put the Horned Frogs’ pass defense back on track.

The TCU defense was affected by far more than Texada’s injury, requiring troves of players to play out of position. Yet, coach Gary Patterson did a phenomenal job keeping the Frogs in contention for the conference title thanks to a third-ranked scoring defense in the Big 12.
