Beaumont Enterprise: Friends, family cheer on Kelly alum, TCU player in College World Series

Stepping onto the field Sunday at TD Ameritrade Park, Beaumont native Dane Steinhagen saw his family and friends in the stands. The TCU senior center fielder wasn’t expecting to see that many people from his hometown – even those who could recall him as the talented Kelly Catholic outfielder who hadn’t yet sprouted into his current 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame.

They had been in the stands when Kelly struggled in district to the unhittable Houston Christian, and committed long enough to see Steinhagen join two Christian pitchers at TCU - Mitchell Traver and Brian Trieglaff – and reach the College World Series for the second-straight time in his career.

“I didn’t even know they were coming up,” Steinhagen said after TCU’s 5-3 win over Texas Tech.

“My brother (Landon) took off from work and he’s here. Just to see those faces in the stands.”
