WISTV: CCU stock rising in light of College World Series

By Josh Roberson, Reporter

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - CCU’s baseball team was the classic underdog going into the College World Series in Omaha, even after beating powerhouses like LSU and NC State before defeating Florida last night. However, locals in the community say the Chants aren’t underdogs, they’ve simply gone unnoticed until now.
“This time last year for the month of June we had about 1000 media hits, some of those were local and some of those were national…in CCU baseball. So this year in June it’s over 5000, it’s fifty five hundred media hits.” said Martha Hunn, the Marketing Director for CCU.

Social media alone saw CCU hits grow by 100% compared to last year, seemingly overnight. And CCU wont be the only ones benefiting from the College World Series success.

“When Coastal makes the post season play, it exponentially increases the promotional value to the Grand Strand, and we saw that during the college world series with not only commercials running on television but a lot of activity on social media and hype around Coastal Carolina University as being the home university of the Myrtle beach area.” said Myrtle beach area Chamber of Commerce CEO, Brad Dean.
