Today’s U: Chauncey Collins’ departure setting stage for TCU basketball

Last week, TCU’s leading scorer from the 2015-16 season, point guard Chauncey Collins, made it official that he would be pursuing playing at the professional level, leaving Fort Worth with a couple years of eligibility left. Considering the Horned Frogs haven’t finished better than ninth since entering the Big 12 four years ago, losing the leading man that averaged over 12 points per game seems insurmountable when only one other play broke double digits.

But for TCU, Collins moving on actually shows some sign of progress and sets the tone for what may come from head coach Jamie Dixon entering his first season on the Frogs bench.

Collins looking for a chance on to play on the professional circuit shows someone was breathing down his neck. In Dixon’s first few months as TCU’s coach, he brought former four-star UNLV commit Jaylen Fisher on board to compete for court time with Collins. Now he’s the de facto point guard with Collins out of the picture. So while depth may not be of concern, the swap at the most valuable position has Dixon primed to get the Frogs back on track.
