Bryan-College Station Eagle: Horned Frogs get early jump on Aggies in Super Regional

TCU freshman All-American Luken Baker made Brigham Hill and the top-ranked Texas A&M baseball team pay for some uncharacteristic wildness as the Horned Frogs ran away with an 8-2 victory in Game 1 of the College Station Super Regional on Friday at Blue Bell Park.

TCU (46-15) can earn a third straight trip to the College World Series with a victory in Game 2 at 8 p.m. Saturday, while national No. 4 seed A&M (48-15) will have to win two straight to extend its season. Game 3 will be at 8 p.m. Sunday if necessary.

Hill walked the first two batters of the fifth inning, then the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Baker muscled a low, inside pitch over the left-field fence to put the Horned Frogs ahead 5-2.

More wildness led to three more TCU runs in the fifth, and with Horned Frog starting pitcher Jared Janczak on his game, the Aggie offense couldn’t make up the difference. With two outs in the fifth, Baker singled, then Hill hit Elliott Barzilli with a 3-2 pitch. He then uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Baker to score from second base.
