How They Stack Up
Ronnie Baker (100 Meter Dash & 4×100 Relay) One week after claiming his second national championship, the senior from Louisville, Ky. ran a wind-aided 9.95 in the 100 meters at the TCU Invitational. Baker’s season-best time led the NCAA throughout the entire regular season. At the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Baker dominated the 100-meter dash, taking home gold with a time of 10.15. Then at the NCAA West Prelims, Baker won the final heat of the 100 meters with a time of 10.22. Joining Baker in the third heat on Wednesday are: Amir James (Northwestern State), Nick Gray (Ohio State), Senoj-Jay Givans (Texas), Markesh Woodson (Missouri), Christian Coleman (Tennessee), Kenzo Cotton (Arkansas) and Nicholas Taylor (Utah Valley). The top two from each heat plus the next two best times will move on.

Sam Watts (200 Meter Dash & 4×100 Relay)
In his outdoor 200-meter opener, Watts did his job and clocked in with a regional-qualifying time of 20.68 at the Tom Jones Memorial, placing second behind Baker. Leading up to that, Watts helped TCU record the NCAA’s seventh-fastest 4×100 relay time at the Texas Relays with a gold-medal time of 39.08. At the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Fort Worth, Watts logged a second-place finish in the 4×100 with a time of 39.41. In the 200 meter finals, Watts earned silver behind a time of 20.69 (-0.8). At the West Prelims, Watts ran a season-best 20.65 to place third in his heat. Joining Watts in the third heat on Wednesday are: Reggie Lewis (Arizona State), James Harrington (Iowa), Brendon Rodney (LIU Brooklyn), Kenzo Cotton (Arkansas), Christian Coleman (Tennessee), Ahmed Ali (Alabama) and Ncincilili Titi (South Carolina). The top two from each heat plus the next two best times will move on.

Brianna McGhee (100 Meter Hurdles)
Throughout the outdoor season, the senior from Omaha, Neb. brought the school 100-meter hurdles record down .36 seconds by topping her own personal best four times. First at the Texas Relays (13.19). Then at the Jim Click Shootout (13.16). Third at the Tom Jones Memorial (12.95). And lastly, she logged a blistering time of 12.88 in the 100-hurdle prelims at the Big 12 Championships. McGhee qualified for nationals in the 100 hurdles at the NCAA West Prelims with the second-fastest time at the meet, crossing the finish line in 13.01 seconds. Joining McGhee in the first heat on Thursday are: Alex Gochenour (Arkansas), Danielle Demas (Sam Houston State), Payton Stumbaugh (Arkansas), Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Kentucky), Jacklyn Howell (Kentucky), Nicole Setterington (Florida State), Vanessa Clerveaux (Alabama). The top two from each heat plus the next two best times will move on.

Men’s 4×100 Relay
At the NCAA West Prelims in Lawrence, Kan., TCU’s 4×100-meter relay team of junior Raymond Bozmans, senior Sam Watts, junior Malik Summers and senior Ronnie Baker won their heat with a time of 39.50. The Horned Frogs recorded the NCAA’s seventh-fastest time in the event with a gold-medal time of 39.08 at the Texas Relays. In June of 1989, the Frogs set the collegiate record in the event with a time of 38.23. The record still stands today – 27 years later.

Fellan McGuigan (Hammer Throw)
The freshman from London, England, could not have started his collegiate career on a higher note. McGuigan opened the year by breaking the school hammer throw record by nearly 14 feet at the TCU Invitational with a mark of 201 feet 2 inches (61.31 meters) but went on to improve the record to 211 feet 6 inches (64.47 meters) by the end of the season. McGuigan placed third at the Big 12 Championships with a mark of 206-9/63.02m. McGuigan threw for the same distance at the NCAA West Prelims to place 11th. McGuigan will compete against his brother, Dempsey McGuigan of Mississippi, on Wednesday.

Megan Smith (Shot Put)
Smith, a senior from Olathe, Kan., started the season by breaking a 23-year-old TCU shot put record with a season-best mark of 56 feet 5.75 inches (17.21 meters). In all six of her regular season shot put performances, the Olathe, Kan. native placed in the top three. Following the record-breaking performance in Fort Worth, Smith went on to place second in the shot put at the Ricardo Romo Invitational (16.47 meters). Heading into her final attempt at the NCAA West Prelims, she found herself in 19th place, but with her last throw, she connected and launched the shot 54 feet 3.75 inches (16.55 meters), placing 12th.

Scotty Newton (Triple Jump)
The sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. dominated the Jim Click Shootout to start the season, taking home first place in the long jump and triple jump with marks of 25 feet 5.25 inches (7.75 meters) and 52 feet (15.85 meters), respectively. His season-best mark of 52 feet in the triple jump would be the deciding factor as he matched the feat at the NCAA West Prelims to advance to nationals with a 12th-place finish. At the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, Newton took home bronze in the triple jump at 15.69 meters.

Adam Damadzic (Discus)
Damadzic, a junior from Worchester, England, earned his spot in the NCAA Championship discus finals with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA West Prelims. His mark of 183 feet 10 inches (56.03 meters) was the second-farthest of the season. Damadzic recorded back to back second-place finishes at the Jim Click Shootout and Tom Jones Memorial with marks of 185 feet 2 inches and 182 feet 3 inches, respectively.

A Championship Program
TCU track and field has claimed 21 national titles, the first in 1983 in the outdoor 4×400 relay with a time of 3:02.09, the school record time. The most championships in one event the Horned Frogs have won is five in the 4×100 relay. Under Coach Anderson, TCU has won eight national championships, seven within the last five years. The two latest titles have come from Ronnie Baker. At the 2015 Indoor Championships, Baker won the 60-meter dash crown behind a mark of 6.52 seconds. His time broke Kim Collins’ record of 6.53 set in 2001, the same year he won the national championship in the event. Most recently at the 2016 Indoor Championships, Baker defended his title by recording the fastest time in NCAA history (non-altitude) as he crossed the finish line in 6.47 seconds.
